In 2013, as my 50th birthday approached, a minor health scare served as a wake-up call to reevaluate my lifestyle. Over two decades had passed since my time as a medical technician in the Royal Army Medical Corps, and during those years, I had unintentionally neglected my health. My diet largely consisted of processed and ultra-processed foods like ready meals, takeaways, sweets, crisps, and biscuits. Combined with a sedentary lifestyle, this led me to my heaviest weight yet.
Because of my background in healthcare, I realised that fad diets wouldn’t provide a sustainable solution. Following the NHS’s diet and exercise guidelines, I committed myself to weeks of effort—only to discover that I hadn’t lost weight but had actually gained more. Frustrated and disheartened, I began searching for answers and came across Dr. William Davis’s book, Wheat Belly. I decided to give his recommendations a try, and to my surprise, the weight started to melt away. This sparked a deeper interest in the science behind low-carb and ancestral lifestyles. Within just three months, I had shed 46 pounds—all without feeling deprived or hungry.
This personal transformation inspired me to become a certified health coach through the Primal Health Coach Institute. For nearly a decade, I’ve been guiding middle-aged men and women to achieve their health goals. My own journey has shown me that it’s possible to maintain weight loss effortlessly while living a vibrant, healthy life.
